Alajuela have a huge variety of spots fit for spending a good time at night. In these spots, restaurants and bars offer different ambients for all kind of tastes. Allow us to share with you valuable information about three of these spots. You can use this to decide where to go in the case you want to hang out outside of our hotel at night.

It is the biggest mall in town. With an array of restaurants and cafes, you can have a good time until the mall get closed, around 9:00PM. The place features other activities from time to time like concerts or sport activities. If you are fancy for dessert there are ice cream, donuts and pastry shops. After eating you can take a walk around and peruse the stores, or play in the arcade.
El Patio
Translated as “The Courtyard”, this place is composed of many specialty restaurants. You can find mexican, caribbean, asian and other kind of regional foods. There are some bars offering cocktails, beers and other kind of alcoholic beverages. It is a very cozy place where every business have decorated their places in a very unique way. El Patio shares a common parking lot that is the middle. It have a dim lighting setup with yellow light bulbs that gives the place a nostalgic feeling.
Plaza Real
Another mall with exception that this one is not under roof. This fact allow some of the business to stay open until late hours. There are some sports bars that get very crowded on weekends. Also cocktail bars are present for those looking for a nice drink. Aside from these, there are the typical restaurants, movie theaters, cafes, banks and a minimarket.
How to move around Alajuela at night
Alajuela is a safe city. Despite this, you need to be always careful. The places we mentioned before are close to Hotel Alajuela. It won’t take you more than 5 to 10 minutes to get to any of them. Depending on the time you can walk from the Hotel and feel safe. Around 8:00 PM there are still people on streets, but after that we highly recommend to come back at hotel using a taxi, or cab services like Didi and Uber. If you are a casual drinker, try to not drink beverages with too much alcohol. It is better to stay in control when you are in a place you are not familiar with.
Why Alajuela at night is better than other cities in Costa Rica
San Jose is bigger, that means more business but also means that longer distances are need to travel between them. Heredia instead have their shopping malls away from downtown, you need a taxi or bus to get to the closest ones. In Alajuela, Plaza Real, City Mall and El Patio are really close to each other.
